AFTERAMBLE:
Part of humanity’s genius lies in mankind’s preference to do everything the easiest way possible. When you combine easy with energy, which humanity seems to have in abundance, you get efficiency.

I dread being lonely. But there’s a certain beauty in solitude, a certain faculty of observation, even a certain wisdom that comes from observing humanity. Seen from one angle, the universe is a great maw of loneliness dotted here and there with specs of light.

The present “peace plan” put forward by the U.S. in the Russia-Ukraine war came out under Mercury retrograde, so it probably won’t stand, or will only after extensive changes.
Nor should it stand. This agreement is one of the most cruel, insensitive, illegal and putrid things I’ve ever seen, and it lowers my estimation of Trump by — well, a lot. It bars Ukraine from EVER joining NATO, and not only gives Russian all the territory it has conquered in the war, but TAKES AWAY from Ukraine all the territory IT has gained in the war. In addition it gives Russia parts of Ukraine it has not even conquered. It also reduces the Ukrainian army by half, but leaves putrid Putrid’s forces untouched, undiminished.
In the past, both Russia and America made a deal with Ukraine — whose nuclear weapons stockpile was BIGGER than Russia’s —that, if Uke gave up all its nukes, gave them to Russia, then Russia AND America would eternally guarantee Uke’s safety and sovereignty, and protect it from any and all enemies.
Then, disregarding all promises, Russia invades Ukraine — a criminal act. And disregarding all promises, the U.S. refuses to protect Ukraine. Both Putin/Russia and Trump/U.S.A. are acting totally dishonourably. Putin by attacking, Trump by cheering Putin on, and refusing to let Ukraine have any weapons equivalent to Putin’s. Both have earned my disgust.

Over the couple of centuries ahead the speech of Europeans and Americans will become more clipped. This influence does not and will not come from China nor Japan, but from the need to communicate with computers. This naturally leads to short phrases and short words, partly because they are easier to computerize, and partly because computer nerds love to label and categorize, which leads to shortened expression.
There is something about technology, which is short and clipped, precise and unforgiving. It is the last that will haunt the halls of AI’s history.

I used to think there was the conscious mind, and then below that the subconscious. But now I think there is the conscious and the sub-verbal consciousness. For example — an artificial example — I’m thinking about moving a chair from the middle of the room to a corner. So my mind recognizes this and begins to absorb the situation of moving the chair. A moment later, maybe sometimes even a second or two later, my mind will actually say, or think in words, “I’ll move the chair,” or some such. I don’t know why we do this. It seems like a useless redundancy, and that might really be what it is, a sort of nervous reaction. But it might also be that the conscious mind holds a governing position over the rest of the mind, so that it will confirm — or at least holds confirmation powers – over what has been an almost unconscious action or thought.

David Eby, Premier of British Columbia, is trying to block a proposed oil pipeline from Alberta to the northern BC coast, thereby blocking the rest of Canada from selling its oil at the world price. (At present, Canada, with no pipelines to the Atlantic or Pacific, is basically forced to sell only to the US, so it receives about $ 48 per barrel, compared to $ 60 + on the open world market.) Are his actions selfish? Of course they are.
Here is the easy solution: Alberta should cut off its oil to the present pipeline that goes to Vancouver where it is refined for British Columbia. If Eby doesn’t want pipelines, then he shouldn’t protest the shutting down of the line that takes oil to Vancouver. Let’s see how long British Colombians can survive without oil or gas.
