AFTERAMBLE:
IF B.C. refuses (as they are) to let Alberta build a pipeline through their province to reach the Pacific coast, and foreign buyers for its gas and oil, Alberta should refuse ALL commerce from B.C., AND refuse to send BC any oil for it own uses. It might also refuse to let freight trucks and freight trains run from BC through Alberta, and in the other direction. if BC can refuse the transport of oil, Alberta can refuse the transport of any old thing!
Were this to happen — it’s extremely unlikely — watch B.C. start scrambling to buy oil from the world, and compete with Asia and Europe for it at much higher prices.
I’m not sure where things stand now, but Quebec has refused for decades — forever, really — to let a pipeline be built through that province for export to Europe. If this still stands, Alberta should cut off all oil to eastern Canada also, and sell exclusively to the U.S.
Sure, Alberta will suffer, but Canada will suffer much more, and have to buy its oil for twice as much as Alberta charges.
Alberta does not need to succeed from Canada; it merely needs to treat Canada as Canada treats Alberta.
