AFTERAMBLE:
Years ago I shared this little method for making wishes come true. First, closing your eyes, making a fist and hoping vigorously… never works. The most potent wishes are very subtle and light — as if God or karma was sending you a little pre-notice of what was to come. Here is my favourite way of making a wish: write it down on a piece of paper, then fold that paper twice (so there are four layers). Place it under your mattress and leave it there until you forget it’s there. That’s when it will start working. I don’t guarantee this method so don’t sue me.
Here’s another method: say you’re living alone, maybe widowed or divorced. You want a companion, a lover or whatever — you want another person in your life. Then, go out into your yard, and put two (Adirondack?) chairs together on the lawn, not touching, but semi-facing each other. Soon, you’ll face an opportunity to meet, converse with someone.

Probably more than 100 wars have been fought in Jesus Christ’s name. The crusades, countless contemporary Muslim – Christian clashes in the Middle East, the genocide and subjugation of Amerindians and Africans. How many indigenous peoples were murdered by Christians? How many tribes and families were starved to death, eliminated and enslaved by Christians waving their Bible as proof of their “holy” actions?
You could also argue that Christ was a strong proponent of, perhaps the actual creator of, Sharia Law, under which it is illegal to charge interest on a loan. Remember how he threw over the tables of the money changers and lenders? Yes, he was trying to keep mercantilism out of religion. This very concept is embraced by Muslims (Sharia Law) and is anathema to the capitalist societies of the West. Basically, Christians have decided money is more important than Christ. (J. P. Morgan? Goldman Sacks? Citigroup? Royal Bank? And a thousand others?)
Prince of Peace? Give me a break. How will humanity ever advance if it ignores the truth? Jesus was a great God, but peace among men was the last thing he promoted. It’s not blasphemy to say this. It is simply the truth, and if God is against our recognizing this truth, then we need to break with God. (This really means, if our concept is that God is against the truth, then we need to break with this concept of God, which is obviously flawed.)

The CRA (Canada’s taxman) was recently “tested” by an independent agency (the Auditor General, equivalent to the American Inspector General). It found that it took 33 minutes for the CRA to answer the phone, and an average of over an hour to have your question answered. In addition, 83 % of the advice/answers given to callers was WRONG. Less than 1 in 5 answers was correct. Who the heck are they hiring? (Actually, many CRA employees sit at home sipping tea or doing the dishes, answering phone queries as they come in. No wonder 83% of their answers were wrong!)
I’m 77. Two years ago I had about $ 12,000 in medical deductions. The CRA demanded I prove every item, a process that took perhaps 10 hours. They rejected one item of about $200 because the receipt was missing a secondary piece of evidence to support it.
Now the CRA has demanded that I prove every single item in my 2024 medical deductions — about $ 14,000 — and submit 6 “proofs” for every item, every single expense — probably taking 20 to 30 hours, IF I can find all the “back-up” documentation. The CRA demands, IN ADDITION TO RECEIPTS:
– the patient’s name
– a description of the services or devices provided
– the amount and date of payment for the services or devices provided
– the name of the person who made the payment
– the name of the controlled drug, preparation, substance, or drug identification number (DIN) if sending a pharmacy statement
– the name of the medical practitioner who prescribed the services or devices
CRA took 5 months to inform me they want all this proof (April through September), but they demand that I provide proof within 30 days, or they will charge me for an extra $ 14,000 in income. Screw them. I have every right to use the same amount of time they took to inform me, to answer them.
And who pays for all the photocopying and organizing and writing? Who does all the work? As far as I can see, the CRA is a huge parasite, sucking the life out of every citizen while it rewards itself with chocolate eclairs and puffed pastries…. preferably consumed at home while they are collecting an eight hour paycheque from John Q. Citizen — oops, my tea kettle’s boiling! Later!
