AFTERAMBLE:
Unconscious sins – if I said something to one person, praising their work and urging them to submit more bids, but a few days later said to the payer who ordered the work that I found certain flaws with their work, which I hoped they’d fix. At the time, with half of all men, and I guess women too, the words betrayal or “two-faced,” would never enter their mind. They’d be unaware that they’re showing two different faces – and motives – to the world. Once they are caught in such a position, and told how wrong it is, usually they never do it again. This is what I call an unconscious sin.
But what about the half of humanity that foresaw the duplicity or the sin of the act, and so did not commit it? Some of these, I am sure, act the right way without even thinking about it, they are displaying unconscious virtue.
The lack of awareness that one is sinning has various expressions: for example, a portion of murderers and rapists feel quite justified in their actions. It is well known that many paedophiles believe that their child victims love them and do want sex with them. This is where awareness or self awareness and justice have a strange relationship. If a person is completely out of it and murders someone, he/she is forgiven by reason of insanity. This is the ultimate lack of self aware morality. But many criminals recognize their actions as a “crime” (a label imposed by some other segment of society) yet feel they are justified. Is this self-aware sinning, or justified sinning. Does the concept of injustice, which most criminals are working under, make the sin or the crime unconscious? Doubtful, but how much of awareness of a sin is belief? (Eg., I know I am sending in your view of life, but I do not believe what I’m doing is a sin at all; rather it’s a battle in a war that you, society, started. So to fight this war against you is no more sin than any self protective action, or any war including WW’s.) I suspect a smaller portion really does not recognize that what they’re doing is a real crime. That smaller portion is the only one that can claim unconscious sinning.
What is worse in God’s eyes? Is it the unconscious sinner, or the conscious but claiming justice sinner? At first, you would think God would be quicker to forgive the unconscious sinner. But what creates an unconscious sinner? He or she must have desires and angers that are masked, hidden from themselves, probably due to social conditioning. Deep within, that desire wants to be fulfilled. The ordinary person, instead of claiming that their action to fulfil it is justified, will suppress an “unacceptable” desire until it comes out a different way. In one sense this is a lack of self-consciousness, but in another way the soul is responsible, and so it is responsible for building these layers of self deception and self justification.

I watched the Eagles – Chiefs game last night. The Chiefs have been virtually unbeatable for two years and two Super Bowl victories. Last year they only lost one game. But at the game last night when the cameras flowed in their drive-by films of the players, you could see a sort of dullness, a dull anger or frustration in the faces of the Chiefs players. This was in the first quarter, when the score was 0-0 or 3–0 for the Eagles. Hardly an insurmountable lead. I dropped out to watch the news for a while and then back to the game (I think the Chiefs were actually ahead on the scoreboard) but the first thing I saw was a mini film of star receiver Travis Kelce spewing wrath at his fellow players. He was angry, long before any actual defeat on the field.
I suspect Travis is going to hold this anger as a protective shield, especially when he sees his sweetheart Taylor Swift. It is his protection-in-general against humiliation. This would intensify in her presence. He might instinctively know that If he just came in and said, sweetie, we just lost our third game, she would turn, be very solicitors and kind… but he would know that inside she was thinking oh am I with a loser? Or in the elevated strata on which they live, he does not have to be a loser. He just has to be a little less shining bright than Taylor herself so he slides down to that level, one below her. Unless the love is true, it will not last. I think it’s true on Kelsey‘s part, but Swift might be going through the motions – very happily and willingly and with great hope for the future of their marriage, but still there’s a kind of lightness or superficiality in her – One that can easily morph into a lifetime of loyal love.
But what was really fascinating was that the Chiefs players, composing the best team in the NFL, with an indisputably great coach, were so low in mood, so quietly angry and disappointed, even while the score was minimal (3–0?). This says that either an organism of 40 or 50 players, or the players themselves each individually, can emotionally predict the outcome of a game — virtually at its beginning. Or, the emotional tenor of the team‘s players will result in their win or loss. Depressed players won’t win a game.
And what’s with Mahome? His long passes were only on the money one in three times. Something’s off in the state of Kansas, Dorothy.

We spend our lives in pursuit of security, of an anchor to keep us from drifting aimlessly over the ocean of life. On a different level, our ultimate anchor in a short view is the Earth, both by obvious and subtle (physical and emotional) gravity. Where ultimately we are interred and become part of the anchor. But in a longer view, the sun is our anchor, as it holds the entire system, out to the Kuiper belt, in its embrace. In a bigger view, the entire galaxy is our anchor — which has a message: there is security in numbers.
Even in a further view, the structures and forces and actions of the universe are our ultimate security and anchor.
Beyond the universe, who knows?
